Energy: the CPME asks to generalize the free termination of contracts

2023-01-05T09:47:40.425Z

This measure would be applied “on a case-by-case basis” by energy companies, according to Bruno Le Maire.

The Confederation of SMEs (CPME) asked Thursday that "

all companies

" be able to renegotiate energy contracts that are too expensive without penalties, before a meeting in Bercy in the afternoon with restaurateurs who should ask in particular for the extension of this system set up for bakers.

This possibility must exist “

for all companies whatever they are

”, estimated Jean-Eudes du Mesnil, general secretary of the CPME, on SUD Radio.

It's a matter of consistency at no additional cost to the community.

»

The measure described as "

exceptional

" by the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire, allows - currently only bakers - to terminate their energy supply contract free of charge in the event of a "

prohibitive

" price increase.

It will be applied "

on a case-by-case basis

" by the energy companies, warned Mr. Le Maire on Tuesday, if the soaring prices "

threatens the survival of the company

".

"

It costs nothing to anyone, except that there will be a kind of healthy competition and that the companies are not bound hand and foot

" in the face of energy companies, launched Mr. du Mesnil.

The restaurateurs, received at 5 p.m. in Bercy, "

will obviously make this request

", he added.

"

The situation has become untenable for a number

of establishments, warned Wednesday chef Thierry Marx, president of the main employers' union for the hotel and catering industry, Umih.

"

Aid exists, but it concerns very few of our companies or at a level far too low for it to be effective

", he explained, asking "

the establishment of a new responsible energy contract at a regulated rate

The catering sector wants "

a tariff shield for all companies, without conditions

", also claimed Franck Trouet, spokesperson for the employers' union of independent hotel and restaurant workers (GNI).

Bruno Le Maire, however, warned on Wednesday that restaurateurs should not expect the same help as bakers because “

it is not the same situation

”.

"

This meeting will be an opportunity for the ministers to educate on all the existing aid,

" explained the Ministry of the Economy upstream.
