The postponement of the legal retirement age to 64 announces a strong opposition, in Parliament, as in the street.

After Elisabeth Borne's presentation of the government's emblematic reform on Tuesday, the major unions called for a first day of demonstrations and strikes.

And they chose the date of January 19.

The leaders of the eight major unions (CFDT, CGT, FO, CFE-CGC, CFTC, Unsa, Solidaires, FSU) met at the end of the afternoon at the Bourse du travail in Paris.

This pension reform "will aggravate precariousness, nothing justifies such a brutal reform", declared Laurent Berger, secretary general of the CFDT, at the end of this meeting.

According to the latest polls, a large majority of French people are opposed to raising the legal age.

“The trade union organizations have never ceased to offer other financing.

(…) The government has never studied them seriously”, lamented Laurent Berger, who specifies that this first day is the “start of a mobilization so that this reform” does not succeed.

"Continue to convince the French"

According to the reform presented by Elisabeth Borne, the legal age will be gradually raised at the rate of three months per year from September 1.

It will therefore be set at 63 years and 3 months in 2027 at the end of the five-year term, then will reach the target of 64 years by 2030. years, contribution period voted under the Touraine law of 2014", which had set the deadline at 2035.
