The Swiss National Bank recorded an annual loss of 132 billion Swiss francs, equivalent to $143 billion, in 2022, the largest loss in its 115-year history.
According to a report by Bloomberg Agency, the decline in stock and fixed-income markets on stocks and bonds, in addition to attempts to strengthen the Swiss franc, left negative repercussions on the bank’s results, indicating that as a result, the Swiss government will not receive payments from the National Bank for the year 2022 in light of these losses.
The loss for 2022 represents a decline from the profit of 26 billion francs recorded in 2021, and is much larger than the previous record loss of 23 billion francs in 2015.
