The US electric car manufacturer Tesla is lowering the prices for its bestsellers in Germany and the USA.
Depending on the configuration, customers will then have to pay between one and 17 percent less for the Model 3 sedan and Model Y.
In the US, prices will fall by 6 to 20 percent.
For a US customer who now pays the lower price for a Model Y and then takes advantage of the subsidies that came into force in the US this month, the discount adds up to 31 percent.
In the past week and October, Tesla had already cut prices in China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and Australia.
Together with the price cuts in the USA and Germany, the current step now marks a trend reversal.
So far, Tesla has regularly increased prices due to high demand.
According to analysts, the price reductions in China could stimulate demand and increase the pressure on competitors there to also offer lower prices.
This could then lead to a discount battle.
The largest market for billionaire Elon Musk's group is the United States, followed by China.
In the fourth quarter, Tesla missed analysts' expectations for the number of vehicles delivered.
