YouTuber Olympe, suffering from dissociative identity disorder, announces her assisted suicide

Olympe - Lily of her real name -, is 23 years old.

Followed by 251,000 subscribers on Youtube, she gained notoriety in 2020, thanks to her videos devoted to personality disorders and psychiatry.

Suffering from attention disorder (ADHD) and dissociative identity disorder (DID), a mental pathology characterized by the presence of several identities in a single body, the young woman shared her moods with her community on a daily basis. on his channel, Le Journal d'Olympe.

After several years of raising awareness online, however, she has just announced her decision to end her life by assisted suicide, via a message on social networks.

In contact with doctors, the intervention should take place in Belgium from the last quarter of 2023, she said.

"Life, I feel it as I suffer it"

"It's my life and it's a difficult decision that I had to make," she justified herself to Internet users, after the outcry over her announcement.

The YouTuber said it was by no means an impulsive decision but taken “with a clear head”.

“I have received messages from people who say that this is the example that I show to young people, she regrets then, on the verge of tears.

I cannot live for others and do everything for others.

I have already stayed for them for the past few years”.

And to add, as a last hope: “I still want to enjoy certain things and I am not closed to something happening and making me change my mind”.

Invited on January 4, 2022 on the set of the program “It starts today”, hosted by Faustine Bollaert, Olympe had confided at length about the hell of her daily life as a person with DID.

Cohabiting with her alter egos, including Lucie the protector, Jay the social, or even Charly, carrier of her traumas, the young woman had explained that she was often subject to mood swings or depressive states, constantly bringing her back to her past. .

Victim of school bullying for 14 years, pedophilia, gang rape or, as she said, five rapes during adolescence, Olympe also experienced the abandonment of her family, passing through four homes. and twenty adoptive families in 7 years.

"Even my dear family let me down the day I told them I wanted to fuck myself up," she said in her announcement video.

And to add: “Like any human, I have my limits.

And my limits have been pushed to their extreme for years, and I can no longer go through other trials, ”she concluded.

In 2002, euthanasia was decriminalized in Belgium (as in Switzerland), then extended to minors in 2014. In France, no law currently authorizes assisted suicide.

Discussions, undertaken by the ethics committee last September, could however soon pave the way for this process for adults suffering from serious or incurable disease, with a life-threatening condition.
