Honey, there's no garden today - the assistants are on a surprise strike (Photo: ShutterStock)
Thousands of parents throughout Israel in cities and towns such as Tel Aviv, Holon, Rosh Ha'Ain and others, were amazed to discover that the kindergartens, where they took their children, as usual every morning, were closed.
The reason?
The sudden strike of the assistants.
Unlike "normal" strikes, which are preceded by an orderly procedure, this time the strike also caught the Histadrut by surprise, which for its part is actually in advanced talks with the Treasury to formulate a wage agreement for helpers in the urban gardens.
Wala learned that the sweatshops were asked to accept the Treasury's answer regarding the wage demands, before taking pirated steps.
Despite this, in a decision made last night in one of the WhatsApp groups where a large part of the assistants are unionized, it was decided not to show up for work this morning - and thousands of Roma and children across the country were left stunned in front of the locked entrance gates.
The Histadrut appealed to all the assistants who would not respond to the strike
The Histadrut hastened to send messages to the workers' committees in the local authorities:
Dear helpers,
at this time a message is being circulated online calling for helpers to be absent from work tomorrow and to produce a "sickness certificate".
It is important for me to emphasize that the Histadrut does not stand behind this initiative and is not of its opinion.
Intensive negotiations regarding the reform of the helpers' wages have been taking place for months!
At the beginning of next week, and as long as there is no breakthrough in the negotiations to reach an agreement on the work conditions and wages of the helpers, the chairman of the Histadrut, Mr. Arnon Bar David, will announce a labor dispute and organizational measures will be taken until an agreement is signed which anchors the reform of the salary of assistants in the local government.
We will continue to update you on any development

Gil Bar-Tal, Chairman of the Histadrut Ma'of
