Eighteen months before the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (JOP), it has never been so interesting to measure the weight of the sector.
BPCE The Observatory on the economy of sport, the third edition of which was published on Thursday, is engaged in this exercise, with a change in methodology at the key.
Rather than measuring the turnover of companies, the new observatory assesses the contribution to GDP of the sports sector: i.e. a volume of 53 billion euros of final consumption of sports goods and services by households to which must be added 12 billion investment in sport from businesses and communities.
After adjusting for the external balance, the weight of the sports sector in France amounts to 64 billion euros, or 2.6% of GDP.
