A day-long warning strike began early Friday morning at Düsseldorf Airport.

ver.di

had called the 700 employees of the baggage and aircraft handler Aviapartner to the walkouts, which began at 3:30 a.m. and are expected to end at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Around half of all flights at the airport have already been canceled for Friday, said a union spokesman.

Aviapartner has a market share of around 75 percent at Düsseldorf Airport.

In terms of passenger volume, the airport is the largest in NRW and the third largest nationwide.

social plan required

The background to the rejection is a reallocation of the handling tasks, in which Aviapartner did not get a chance.

As a result, 700 jobs are at risk, Ver.di said.

Aviapartner is now refusing a social plan with severance payments for employees threatened with job loss.

Warning strikes by employees of the airport company, ground handling services and aviation security in Berlin had already brought passenger traffic at BER Airport to a standstill on Wednesday.

With the action, Ver.di wanted to increase the pressure on employers before the next negotiations.

The Deutsche Post service is also likely to be affected by strikes again on Friday.

Employees in selected companies in the parcel and letter centers as well as in parcel, letter and group delivery should take part in the all-day work stoppages, as Ver.di announced.

According to the information, around 6,000 employees went on warning strike on Thursday;

Last week, around 30,000 employees took part from Thursday evening to Saturday.

Referring to the high inflation for the employees of the post office, the trade union calls for an increase in wages and salaries of 15 percent for a contract period of one year.

The remuneration for trainees is to be increased by 200 euros per month.

According to the information, collective bargaining will continue on February 8th and 9th.
