The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform is working to introduce new areas into agricultural investment this year, through a plan to plant 1,500 hectares with fruit trees, in addition to providing services for fruit and forestry production centers, and building agricultural and forestry roads and fire lines.
The Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, stressed during a meeting with heads of departments of fruitful afforestation projects in the governorates today, working to solve problems and difficulties that impede afforestation operations, and proposing appropriate solutions in a way that contributes to the development of the work of these projects, pointing to the importance of focusing on the developmental aspect of land reclamation. Developing plans according to the priorities and economic feasibility of the sites and assembly at the region level, and defining the technical conditions that save effort, time, movement of mechanisms and costs, in a way that provides integrated services to farmers wishing to reclaim their lands.
The minister explained that about 572,000 hectares are arable and uninvested, and work must be done to include them in agricultural investment, pointing out that the government continues to provide support to farmers in this field, whether in terms of providing mechanisms, pricing and afforestation, stressing the condition of investment and obligating farmers to plant their lands upon free reclamation.
And the Director of Plant Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Ahmed Haidar, stated that the plan for the fruitful afforestation project in the governorates for this year amounts to the reclamation of 1,500 hectares, pointing out that 572 hectares of the fruitful afforestation plan and 279 hectares of the green belt plan were reclaimed during the past year.
