Small and medium-sized firms say only 25% of the SIRAs they file are approved, according to a Chamber of Commerce survey.

More than 3 months after its entry into force, the new import system continues to generate resistance, mainly due to the obstacles that companies encounter when receiving authorization to access the dollars necessary to pay for purchases abroad.

According to a survey carried out by the

Argentine Chamber of Commerce

among more than 200 companies, mostly SMEs that import raw materials, intermediate goods and capital goods, most of the companies only managed to get

less than 25% of the licenses approved.

under the new SIRA system.

In addition, those that obtained authorization may have

delays of up to 90 days

in their approval.

This situation, according to the CAC, means that 93% of the firms consulted have reduced their level of stock and sales and

have seen their normal operation affected.

"This uncertain panorama is also aggravated by the lack of financing from abroad, since the import system itself requires, under certain conditions, companies that payments be made within 90 days, so it

is necessary to have financing from the In this sense, 61% of the responses indicated that they find it difficult to obtain said financing, something that further affects

foreign

trade operations," the Chamber said in a statement.

Despite the situation, at the time of the survey (January 2023), 85% of the companies had not had contact with the Ministry of Commerce.

"The same Secretariat sent all importers an Excel with 'import projections 2023' so that the companies complete the import estimates for the current year," added the CAC.

From the entity they indicated that the SIRA are not the only obstacle they find to be able to import.

"There are other obstacles, such as the Financial Economic Capacity (CEF) and the drawbacks that arise from the Single Current Account for Foreign Trade (CCUCE)," they explained.
