The US government is taking the controversial Chinese telecom supplier Huawei entirely from its export network.

The "Financial Times" and the news agencies Bloomberg and Reuters report that no more licenses are to be granted to US companies for exports to the company.

Corresponding notifications were received by several companies, said people familiar with the process.

China's tech stocks came under pressure on the news.

It was perceived as an escalation of the tech war.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed serious concern at the news of export bans.

These developments are being followed closely, it said.

Neither the US Department of Commerce, Huawei nor the US company Applied Materials, which specializes in the construction of chip equipment, could be reached for a statement.

Huawei has been subject to US export restrictions for several years for fast 5G mobile technology and other technologies.

So far, however, there have been exceptions for the company, some American companies have received licenses to sell goods to the group from China.

For example, suppliers of Huawei received $61 billion worth of licenses to sell to the telecom equipment giant from April to November 2021.

In December, Huawei said its total revenue was $91.53 billion, down only slightly from 2021, when U.S. sanctions caused revenue to fall by nearly a third.

At the end of last year, however, the USA had already issued new restrictions against China, including export controls for advanced semiconductor technology.

This is intended to prevent China's military from modernizing.

There are also fears that Huawei technology could be a gateway for Chinese espionage or sabotage.

The government justified the move by protecting national security.

The Chinese telecommunications group Huawei is number one in 5G network equipment.

However, the USA and subsequently also partner countries have excluded the group from expanding their 5G networks.

Some countries then set up their 5G mobile network without any Chinese suppliers, and in Germany even more Huawei technology is used than before.

According to Reuters, a person familiar with the matter reported that US officials were developing a new policy that would include export bans below the 5G level, including 4G cellular technology, Wi-Fi 6 and 7, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and cloud article.
