The calm before the storm?
In this inflationary context where each shopping cart is always more expensive, not to mention the electricity rates which have just jumped 15% on February 1, this is at least good news for motorists.
According to the latest statement from the Ministry of Ecological Transition, stopped on Friday February 3, fuel prices fell last week.
In detail, the price of diesel was displayed on average at €1.8873 per liter and that of unleaded 95 - E10 at €1.8996.
That is a drop of 5.6 cents for the first and 1.1 cents for the second!
Something to offer a bit of respite to those who have to refuel regularly while prices were dangerously approaching the two euro mark last week.
The price of oil also continued to fall last week, with a barrel of Brent from the North at 83.2 dollars, three dollars less than the previous week.
The diesel goes under the gasoline
For the first time since June, the prices of diesel, the best-selling fuel in France, have also fallen below those of gasoline!
This was traditionally the case before the war in Ukraine, but in recent months diesel vehicle owners have suffered much more from soaring prices at the pump.
However, we must not rejoice too quickly.
With the embargo on Russian refined products in force since Sunday, the pressure is likely to increase on fuels, and in particular on diesel.
Even if this embargo has been anticipated by the markets for several weeks.
If you haven't done so yet, and if you are eligible, now is a good time to apply for the 100 euro fuel check introduced by the government since the beginning of January.
This boost is intended for modest people who use their car to go to work.
However, only 3 million people out of the 10 million eligible had claimed it at the end of January.
