A few weeks before their satin wedding - 24 years after Renault entered the capital of Nissan on March 27, 1999 - the two manufacturers and Mitsubishi announced on Monday the overhaul of their Alliance.

The main interested parties, Jean-Dominique Senard and Luca de Meo on the Renault side, Makoto Uchida on the Nissan side, looked liberated, as if physically relieved of a weight.

Strange feeling for an operation which not only was difficult to negotiate, but also completes the destruction of the dream of creating a world number one in the automobile industry.

This dream was that of an era, that of happy globalization, and of a man, Carlos Ghosn.

On Monday, Renaut and Nissan killed the father a second time.

The functioning of the Alliance had become an ordeal.

A person close to the case thus describes a

“transactional system”

which made it more complicated, and incredibly bureaucratic, to buy a gearbox from his partner than from an ordinary supplier…
