Warning strikes in the public sector are to take place again on Thursday in several federal states.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, commuters and schoolchildren will probably have to do without buses and trams in some cities.
The reason is a warning strike by the unions Ver.di and Komba.
With the work stoppages, they want to emphasize their demands in the ongoing collective bargaining dispute between the federal and local governments.
According to Ver.di, city administrations, daycare centers, waste disposal companies and clinics are also affected.
The union expects several thousand participants nationwide.
Larger demonstrations and rallies are planned in Dortmund, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Aachen.
In Hesse, municipal facilities such as clinics, administrations or swimming pools could also be affected, and a demonstration is planned in Fulda in the morning.
In Berlin, employees of the Charité, the water works, at universities and in the garbage disposal are called on to walk out.
In the current collective bargaining round, Ver.di and the civil servants' association dbb are demanding 10.5 percent more income, but at least 500 euros more for the approximately 2.5 million employees in the public sector at federal and local level.
According to Ver.di, around 640,000 of these are in NRW.
The term of the new collective agreement is to be twelve months.
The second round of collective bargaining is scheduled for February 22nd and 23rd in Potsdam.
