The economist
Carlos Melconian
made an analysis of
the political and economic context
that Argentina is going through in the final stretch towards the 2023 presidential elections and anticipated a
discouraging scenario
.
"What is relevant is that this issue of fragile macroeconomics and uncertain politics is not new, it has already happened, it happens in transitions, and if precautions are not taken, it will happen again. Argentine history shows that
election years with fragile macroeconomics and uncertain politics end badly"
, warned the former president of Banco Nación in dialogue with
TN
.
He also explained that "the fiscal deficit is financed with issuance, and as long as there is issuance and the fiscal deficit is not zero,
the debt is going to be a bomb that is there."
Regarding the economic crisis that is plaguing the country, he pointed out that it is a
"cumulative process
".
"If the attack on the Supreme Court did not come, it is not that the economy would be good, but it adds up.
On top of that, truckers.
On top of that, it does not give you 4% inflation and you call Fair Prices to give you 3%.
All wrong.
But it's not just about that. Again, it's a cumulative process."
Carlos Melconian assured that "as long as there is issuance and the fiscal deficit is not zero, the debt is going to be a bomb that is there."
On the other hand, the director of the Institute for Studies on Argentine and Latin American Reality (IERAL) of the Mediterranean Foundation considered that
"politicians act on an empty stage"
and that, in contrast,
"people are doing something else
. "
Meanwhile, he maintained that it is necessary for there to be "a process of honesty" between the ruling party and the opposition.
"
Those who want to be candidates for president have to get together
. I do not conceive of the ruling party and opposition. Candidates for president, when they have 20 years ahead of them, are circumstantial adversaries. Today it is your turn and tomorrow it can be my turn. I will that you fix, it works for me," he reflected.
Carlos Melconian assured that Sergio Massa "is postponing the problems"
Carlos Melconian
referred last Wednesday to the management of
Sergio Massa
at the head of the Ministry of Economy, of whom he maintained that he is "postponing the problems" and warned society not to eat "rotten fish" because the next government will have to solve them.
"
Here the problems are postponed
," said Melconian in dialogue with Radio Miter and stated that the arrangements will have to "make the next one and they will throw everything into the campaign."
For the economist, the Government "falls short in tariffs, in dollars, in rents, in transportation, in meat and in salaries."
"Liquefies, does not fix", in relation to the fact that it does not fully attack the problem of inflation.
Carlos Melconian considered that Massa's "stage of stabilizing instability" and promoting it "as an achievement" is "running out."
“The most orthodox of populism are excited that they are being liquefied, but they tell you that
if they hit Massa a lot, Massa falls off
too,” he analyzed, adding that “
liquefying is not a solution
, it is postponing the problem for the next one.”
In this sense, he insisted that the Government "is postponing the problems; that
society does not eat any rotten fish in this round trip of insults
."
Also, he considered that the "stage of stabilizing instability" and promoting it "as an achievement" is "running out."
"I think that now
that string is being pulled exaggeratedly
," he said.
