Crisis at "Gruner + Jahr": It's probably not over for "Geo Era" for good

A few days ago it became known that numerous »Gruner + Jahr« magazine titles were to be discontinued, and hundreds were being dismissed. Now RTL could reverse a decision.

On Tuesday, the media group RTL, which owns the magazine division of the publishing house Gruner + Jahr in Hamburg, announced that 23 magazines were to be discontinued and up to 700 jobs to be cut.

Instead, they want to focus on core brands and push ahead with their digital expansion.

Now a decision is apparently being considered again: The history magazine "Geo Era" may not be on the verge of extinction after all.

The management of mother RTL Germany confirmed that they would check again "whether and how" the title could continue.

The "Süddeutsche Zeitung" had first reported on it.

According to RTL information, however, only "Geo Epoch" is being considered - not the decisions on other affected magazines.

The topic came up at a works meeting in Hamburg at the end of the week.

RTL did not name a time horizon.
