The government wants to add meat to price agreements: they will relaunch 'Careful cuts'

The Secretary of Commerce, Matías Tombolini, announced it. It will include cuts like vacuum, breech, and shoulder.

After the increases in recent days with increases of around 20%, the Secretary of Commerce Matías Tombolini anticipated that

the Government is negotiating a new price agreement for meat.

In an interview with Urbana Play, he announced that they will relaunch Cortes Cuidados with cheaper prices for empty meat, matambre, skirt, roasted meat, buttocks and shoulder.

This Tuesday, the INDEC will release

the inflation data for January

, which according to the private sector will be around 6%.

The increase in meat in recent weeks had a lot of weight in this jump in the index.

Now Tombolini indicates that they will seek to stop the impact on the index.

There is a process open to advance in measures that allow us to equalize this impact

There was a delay in terms of meat prices but we are not going to allow abuses either.

It is true that the price of meat increased 62.4% in 2022 (below inflation, which was 94.8%).

But in 2021 it had risen 10 points above inflation, 18 points above in 2020 and 8 points above in 2019," recalled the Secretary of Commerce.

“In the long cycle, the increase in meat has been greater than in food and beverages.

There are a series of negotiations that will be announced shortly.

A set of measures that the Minister of Economy is going to announce to be able to operate on the pocket in butcher shops and also some powerful measure on the

Care Cuts

program ”.

The Cortes Cuidados program was in force until September of last year.

In the last quarter of 2022,

meat had sharp drops due to the effect of the drought

, which forced producers to liquidate the animals due to the impossibility of maintaining them.

But that trend was cut in January, when meat rose around 20%.

Given the impact on inflation, the Government tried to implement various measures to curb it.

Among them, it announced

a 10% discount for customers on debit card purchases at butcher shops.

But the measure had no significance since 90% of the operations are informal, according to official calculations.

Regarding the inflation index that will be announced tomorrow, Tombolini said that “January has seasonality due to the weight of the services item in these months, which is more in tourism and recreation.

The challenge has to do with the framework of the road map that Minister Sergio Massa marked out six months ago,” said the official.

In the interview, Tombolini admitted the effect of the monetary issue on inflation.

“Closing the fiscal gap and the monetary financing of the deficit, issuing less, and accumulating reserves and, as

one of the complementary tools, price programs

that cannot exist in a vacuum.

It is a price program that tries to operate on inflation expectations but based on the closing of the fiscal gap and the accumulation of reserves”, he pointed out.

The Secretary of Commerce also referred to parities.

“The wage tensions typical of the bid between capital and labor have not manifested themselves in such a way as to generate situations that are difficult to reverse.

It is a sector that decided to be part of the solution and not the problem

, ”he said.

The official pointed out that "

the most important challenge is for salaries to beat prices

. "

And he expressed his opinion on the request of the companies to put a cap on salary negotiations.

"One can hope that the labor movement accompanies but that is why we do not accept that request because they are two separate discussions," he said.
