Tourist dollar: AFIP says that since January it has already returned $7.2 billion

The liquidations benefited 130,000 taxpayers who had bought foreign currency, tickets and consumption with debit and credit cards abroad.

Slowly, the AFIP began to return this year the perceptions collected "in advance" in the purchase of savings dollars and in the dollar contributions taken for expenses abroad.

The agency reported this Tuesday that it has already refunded about $7.2 billion to 130,000 taxpayers who made the request for consumption made in 2022.

The accreditations took more than one by surprise.

This time, those who in January of this year have made the request for their 2022 expenses have already begun to see the money credited to their bank accounts, something that in previous years was not seen until well into the third quarter.

"Throughout 2023, the Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP) made refunds for Income Tax for $7,200 million pesos. The liquidations benefited 130,000 taxpayers who had been reached by perceptions in purchase operations of foreign currency, tickets and consumption with debit and credit cards outside the country," the agency said in a statement.

Last year, in one of the many hardening of the exchange rate, the AFIP raised from 35% to 45% the perceptions that were made as an advance on account of Earnings and Personal Assets on the tourist dollar.

"General Resolution No. 4815 established an income tax and Personal Assets tax regime for foreign currency purchase operations, tickets abroad and card consumption outside the country and on platforms. Once At the end of the calendar year in which the perception was produced, taxpayers can request a refund," the agency reported.

Taxpayers who wish to request these refunds must have a CUIT, tax code level 2 or higher, and Electronic Fiscal Address.

The tax official Sebastián Dominguez affirmed;

"Last year the AFIP began to return the perceptions of 2021 as of September. It was surprising that a couple of weeks ago it began to do so with those that were collected in 2022."

Dominguez clarified that these returns were made to taxpayers who are not covered by the Income and Personal Property Tax.

"In that case, the procedure should be able to be done month by month and that the refunds are automatic, not that the taxpayer must wait a year."

The accountant recommended "doing the process as soon as possible" so that the amounts to be returned are not affected by inflation.

In 2022, the AFIP returns for these concepts reached $12,671 million pesos, which were distributed among nearly 350,000 people.

This year, due to the impact of inflation and the increase in the tax burden for foreign currency purchases, the number should be much higher.
