Is society more violent, or are we simply better informed about violent acts than before?
The number of homicides, excluding acts of terrorism, has been falling since the end of the 20th century.
In twenty years, it has even stabilized at the number of 800 per year, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
But the recent barometer on the state of sexism in France, shared at the end of January by the High Council for Equality between Women and Men, shows that it continues, and, worse, that “its most violent manifestations are 'aggravate'.
Thus, 14% of French women say they have been sexually assaulted or raped.
Despite a collective awareness instilled by the MeToo movement, the Grenelle of domestic violence of 2019 and a young generation more concerned by gender inequalities,
the figures are alarming.
Since 2017, recorded acts of domestic violence have increased by 42% (Insee).
