For the first time in eight and a half months, diesel fuel is again cheaper than Super E10.
This is the result of a current analysis by the ADAC on fuel prices in Germany.
According to this, a liter of Super 10 costs 1.763 euros on average nationwide, the price for a liter of diesel is 1.762 euros.
According to ADAC, diesel was last cheaper than Super E10 on May 31, 2022.
Since the start of the tank discount on June 1, diesel drivers have regularly had to pay more than petrol drivers.
The tax on diesel was reduced by around 17 cents per liter during the three-month rebate, and the tax rebate on petrol was 35 cents.
But even after the end of the tank discount on August 31, 2022, diesel remained more expensive than the Super E10 due to special effects.
Despite working from home: the number of commuters is increasing
According to the evaluations, the prices for both types of fuel have risen again compared to the previous week.
Petrol in particular has become significantly more expensive: a liter of Super E10 currently costs 2.6 cents more than a week ago, while diesel is 0.6 cents more expensive.
Even if crude oil has also become somewhat more expensive, the ADAC sees scope for price reductions at gas stations.
Price-sensitive consumer behavior can make an important contribution to this.
However, the high prices for petrol and diesel last year did not deter people in Germany from using their cars more to commute to work.
This is the result of an analysis of traffic patterns by the mapping specialist TomTom.
Even the possibility of working from home has not led to a decline.
"Surprisingly, the time that commuters lose during rush hour in the major German cities surveyed has actually increased in many places over the past year," said a TomTom spokesman.
Drivers in Munich are stuck in traffic jams the longest
In 2022, drivers spent the longest time in a traffic jam at rush hour in Munich – a total of 67 hours and 9 minutes.
This was followed by Hamburg with 66 hours and 5 minutes, Berlin (61 hours and 39 minutes) and Leipzig (60 hours and 11 minutes).
