Data from the European Central Bank showed that inflation in France and Spain rose unexpectedly this month, adding to expectations of a rate hike.
The European Central data, according to Reuters, indicated that inflation in France rose to 7.2 percent from seven percent, while inflation in Spain jumped to 6.1 percent from 5.9 percent.
The data also raises doubts about the decline in inflation for the entire euro area, which is scheduled to be announced the day after tomorrow, to 8.2 percent from 8.6 percent.
The European Central Bank intends to raise the main interest rate by 50 basis points in March, to 3 percent.
