After the announcement of the "malbec dollar" by the Minister of Economy Sergio Massa in Mendoza, Misiones stepped on the accelerator to obtain
a differential dollar for four products
that are pillars of its economy:
yerba mate, tea, wood and tobacco
.
Governor Oscar Herrera Ahuad admitted that
he had contacts with Massa all weekend
and assured that "we are on the right track" to achieve the benefit
as of April
, the same period in which the differential dollar for wine would start.
"We hope that soon we can announce it in a specific way for the province of Misiones," added Herrera Ahuad after inaugurating a school in Posadas.
It is
not yet defined if the four productive chains will be able to export with the same reference value
or if each one will be managed with a different price, since they face different realities.
From the
yerba sector
they said that with
a dollar at $280
(against $199.68 from the wholesaler) they would recover competitiveness and it would be a good boost for the activity;
while the
lumber industries admitted that by exporting at $260 per dollar
, the situation would improve.
One of the big players in the
tea
market , Renzo Klimiuk, argued that they need
a dollar above $300
because dollar costs have skyrocketed in recent times.
“We are looking forward to achieving this for all regional economies.
In our case,
we export 95% of production
, ”explained the businessman.
Klimiuk maintained that they had already presented a study in Buenos Aires in which they explained the complications they suffered due to the sharp increase in expenses, but
they never received answers.
For his part, the president of the Association of Agricultural Producers of Misiones (APAM), Cristian Klingbeil, argued that the differential dollar
arrives at the end of the harvest
, but "if we manage to maintain it over time, it will provide predictability." for the next campaign, which starts in the spring.
“Hopefully we can announce it shortly, already with a more specific issue for the province of Misiones.
Citrus growers and other regional economies should be negotiating the same thing
," said Governor Herrera Ahuad.
Against the "soybean dollar" model
The president of the Argentine Federation of the Wood and Allied Industry, Román Queiroz, maintained that a differential dollar for the wood sector is
only useful "if it extends over time,
not for a single month," as was the case at the time with the soy.
“When a wood exporter has to make
long-term projections
to be able to attract customers.
So,
if the measure is for one or two months, it doesn't work for us
," he explained.
The businessman maintained that exports fell by 80% and
there is an oversupply in the domestic market,
which has caused many sawmills to reduce work hours or cancel shifts because their sheds are full.
The implementation of a differential dollar will allow Misiones to continue negotiations with Massa for the implementation of the Special Customs Zone for the province.
The announcement was going to be made at the end of last December by the minister on a visit to Misiones, but everything
was postponed without a date.
The Minister of Finance of Misiones, Adolfo Safrán, assured two weeks ago that "there is joint interest in putting it into operation as soon as possible and now we are working on technical issues."
In this sense, he said that "the differential dollar is one of the proposals for some productive sectors, such as tobacco, the forestry industry, sectors that are complicated today, such as tobacco", which is smuggled into Brazil, where it is They pay prices higher than those of the local market.
In addition, the Special Customs Zone would add fintech and technology companies.
