They are afraid: what is the meaning of the silence of the finance economists? - Walla! Of money

The time has come for us to hear the voices of those who see themselves not as officials but as gatekeepers of the public treasury, the treasury economists. What paralyzes them? Probably the concern for the job and pension

The professional ranks in the Ministry of Finance have enormous power in their hands.

They see themselves as the "gatekeepers", the lock on the state coffers, the ones who keep their finger in the dam so that the budget framework is not breached, and prepare it with their own hands for the government and the Knesset to vote.

They are the ones who know the ins and outs of the economy and politics more than any alternate finance minister and therefore, when they are called "officials", they are offended, since, at least to them, it is a patrol of the best economists and not gray bumblers.

But with all due respect to their self-sufficiency, precisely now, when the Israeli economy is on the verge of collapse, they are silent.

The hi-techists were the first to warn of the fateful consequences of the legal reform on the economy, followed by senior economists, former governors, investment managers, but the finance boys, who know how to express their opinion in a reasoned manner on every issue and are considered to be the ones who keep their hand on the rope, do not say a word.

Are you worried about the fate of the job?

The reason is simple and very disturbing: they are afraid.

Treasury officials, who fought hard battles with previous finance ministers, and leaked harsh news over their heads, are now afraid of the fate of their jobs, perhaps also of their pensions.

Where is

the head of the budget department, Yogev Gerdos, the head of the salary department, Efi Malkin, and the

accountant general, Yehli Rotenberg?

Do they not see what is happening before their eyes? Do they not think that the economy of the State of Israel is in danger?

Rotenberg, a supporter of the reform, why doesn't he say this publicly, or explain indirectly, that it will grow the GDP and attract foreign money here?

What is he afraid of?

The only one who plucked up courage and warned the government a few weeks ago about the impending catastrophe, is Chief Economist Shira Greenberg, a brave woman among cowardly officials.

Even Dr. Michael Sharel, the chief economist of the Kehalat Forum, the forum behind the legal revolution, today came out against it, mainly because of the mortal damage it causes to the economic stability of the State of Israel. He, unlike those who guard our money, had enough responsibility to say that the reform You will pave the way for severe damage to liberal democracy, and therefore in the medium term there will also be severe damage to the economy.

His words reinforce the comment of the credit rating agency Moody's, which warns Israel against downgrading if there is such damage. Rotenberg was able to convince Fitch's economists to moderate the warning theirs, but as time goes by, and the situation in Israel worsens, the credit rating companies can no longer flex their positions. They are committed to their professional reputation and not to the dubious reputation of the Israeli politicians. Therefore, if the people of the professional level in the Treasury still have a little professional respect left, it is time for them to gather courage and speak

up - and again, no matter what their opinion is - it's time for them to voice it publicly.

Faced with the objective data that is laid before them and before all of us, they no longer have the legitimacy to remain silent.

After all, this is not a personal opinion, but a national responsibility.

Anyone with eyes in his head recognizes in Israel a process that is getting worse and worse.

In the hands of the boys and girls of the Treasury have the power to influence..
