The Nancy tram on tires, launched in 2000, ceased to operate on Sunday, after years marked by technical incidents.
Inaugurated by Bernadette Chirac in December 2000, Bombardier's TVR (reserved track) will be replaced in September 2024 by a bi-articulated trolleybus.
This electric vehicle on tires will be powered by overhead contact lines and will have electric batteries whose recharging is ensured while driving, "
which will give it autonomy to connect sectors not equipped with overhead lines
", underlined the metropolis of Greater Nancy in a press kit.
Between now and its commissioning, development work will be undertaken and buses will ensure the transition.
The tram on tires had been chosen in Nancy as in Caen because it was cheaper than a conventional tram with its single rail instead of two and for its innovative mode of operation, both electric and diesel, with tires allowing to drive without guidance on part of the line.
Like Nancy, where the decision to give up the tram on tires was taken several years ago, the city of Caen decided to abandon this means of transport in 2017, due to premature wear.
