The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, decided on an
"administrative" intervention by Edesur
.
After a meeting with the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royón, and the controller of Enre -Walter Martello-, progress will be made in an "administrative intervention to
control the provision of the service and investment works",
according to official sources.
The mayor of Avellaneda, Jorge Ferraresi, who was also a minister in this administration, will be designated as "controller."
Although he is known for his adherence to the
ranks of Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner
, the mayors of the southern suburbs have been demanding that "one of their own" participate in Edesur's decisions.
In constant tension with the current administration, Edesur's intervention had been called for in recent weeks.
The high temperatures left thousands of users without electricity during the last weeks
.
The municipalities of the southern conurbano (Avellaneda, Quilmes, Berazategui, Lanús, Lomas de Zamora, Esteban Echeverría) were the most affected, apart from some neighborhoods in the city of Buenos Aires.
The Government defined the measure after the more than 70,000 cuts registered in the AMBA last week.
In this framework, the authorities detected
"technical breaches"
and the minister decided to advance this Monday in the "administrative intervention", a measure that would not affect the property or assets of the company.
Edesur has been arguing that the State
breached the concession contract
.
In it, there are comprehensive tariff reviews (RTI), which mean higher income for distributors.
The Alberto Fernández administration did not carry them out in 2020 and 2021.
"It is not an operational intervention,
the company is still in charge of the operations, it is to supervise the provision of the service and monitor the investment works
," said sources from the Ministry of Economy aware of the announcement.
The State already has a supervisor in the company's administration.
And the regulatory body (Enre) is conducting an audit, so
there are about thirty technicians in the company.
