Jeans, the most polluting garment in the world?

For ten years, the Drôme company 1083 has been trying to prove the opposite.

Its founders, Grégoire and Thomas Huriez, relocated all the stages, until they finally achieved their dream: to develop 100% cotton jeans made in France.

"These are the most ecological jeans possible and the first in 100% cotton 'made in France'",

assures Thomas Huriez, president of the company.

Everything comes from France (cotton, labels, buttons, sewing thread), and everything is made in France (Gers, Drôme, Vosges, Nord…).”

1083 advanced step by step, first by relaunching weaving and tailoring, then dyeing (excluding indigo) and spinning, before closing the loop with cotton growing.

 For ten years, we have been doing a lot of R&D on seeds adapted to the French climate, sustainable farming techniques and sowing dates.

With farmers from Drôme and Gers, we achieved our first harvest in November on 3 hectares,

The cotton is not dyed because it is mixed with recycled cotton.

This harvest will make 1082 jeans.

This first edition is on sale via a crowdfunding campaign with Ulule, from Saturday until May 28.

The price for these models (one for men and two for women) marketed in pre-order: 169 euros.

"Rebuilding the denim industry in France, a skill that was lost in the 1990s, was a titanic job,"

says Thomas Huriez.

A new chapter is opening for the company, towards more creativity in the collections.”

The French buy an average of one pair of jeans a year, which travels 65,000 kilometers before arriving at home...
