A little over a week ago, we were warned in "Walla" that chicken prices would rise sharply before Passover and Independence Day, at a rate of between 25% and 30%, this is because of the concentration in the industry and the failed preparation of the Ministry of Agriculture, which did not take care to import broilers, so that there would not be a shortage.
The Ministry of Agriculture, which is headed by Avi Dichter, perhaps the appointed Minister of Defense, was outraged by the publication, and claimed that there was no truth in the data: "In a sample test we conducted on the networks," they said in response, "the prices presented in the article do not reflect the situation of consumer prices in the market at all."
But a survey conducted for us by
the "Retail Research Institute"
proves otherwise.
In a comparative sample of 13 fresh animal products, including chicken and meat, conducted in the five leading marketing chains in the general sector, it appears that the average price increase of the basket is more than 10% compared to last year, the price fluctuations range from a 1.5% discount per basket in the Yohannoff chain to an increase in the price of 15% in Shufersal network,

Last year, chicken breasts in the Rami Levy and Yohannoff chains cost 14.90 per kilo, as of today the price has jumped ten shekels more per kilo - 24.90 shekels, a difference of 67%.
The price of a kilo of ground chicken meat in Shufersal increased by 28 shekels last year and today it stands at 49.90 per kilo, a difference of 78%.
The price of chicken breast, one of the best-selling products, jumped from NIS 19.90 per kilo to NIS 32.90 per kilo, and in the Yohannoff chain the price even jumped by 40% to a price of NIS 27.50 per kilo.
According to what was first reported in "Walla", at the end of February officials in the Ministry of Agriculture warned that due to the failed organization of the ministry for the holiday, the price of chicken will increase sharply before Passover.
Since there is no import of chicken, there is no way to stop the sharp price increase.
The same sources also said that the price of eggs is expected to increase, since in the last year the poultry disease with salmonella increased, many laying eggs were destroyed to protect public health, which resulted in a reduction in the amount of laying eggs.
The increased poultry disease broke out, among other things, due to problematic rearing conditions, outdated, crowded and unhygienic coops, which the previous Minister of Agriculture, Oded Forer, tried to change through the reform of the laying industry - in vain.
Because of the damage to the number of laying eggs, the import of chicks to Israel was considered, an unusual move, which was not carried out in the end and could have alleviated the shortage.
As published last week, the Ministry of Agriculture chose to deny the facts and claim that there is no increase in prices, perhaps this is a tactic that the Minister of Agriculture will bring with him to the Ministry of Defense and thereby eliminate the security threat to the State of Israel.
