STORY - Bankruptcies and store closures will continue. In a market that has been in steady decline for fifteen years and disrupted by e-commerce and new entrants, the most fragile players are threatened.


How far will breakage go in ready-to-wear?

After the purge which took away the weakest brands during the Covid (those which had not been able to obtain a PGE), the survivors hoped to revive themselves.

The ace.

On the contrary, it is the carnage: after the resounding liquidation of Camaïeu in September, road trips have multiplied since January.

Requests for receivership (André, Kookaï, Gap France, Kaporal, Go Sport…) are legion, and increasingly frequent liquidations (San Marina, Cop.Copine…).

Even the most pessimistic did not see the storm coming.

Signs that have been part of the French commercial landscape for decades are wiped off the map.

Not a buyer with strong backs does not appear.

Not an investor takes out his wallet.

Since 2008, the clothing sector has been structurally in decline.

It certainly rebounded in 2021 and 2022 after the collapse linked to the pandemic, but it is down 15% over fifteen years.
