Without brake: inflation in March was 7.7% and climbed to 104.3% in one year

With these data from INDEC, the interannual rate is the highest in more than 30 years. Food was once again among the items that rose the most.

Inflation continued to rise and

in March prices rose by 7.7%

compared to February.

With the official data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec),

the interannual variation reaches 104.3%, the highest in more than 30 years

.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) revealed the impact on the pocket last month, which once again had food as one of the items with the highest incidence on average.

Before the official data was known, meat -a basic product of the Argentine diet- had already registered an upward trend that began in February because in previous months it had risen below general inflation.

Without brake: inflation in March 2023 was 7.7% and climbed to 104.3% in one year.

In the meat segment, the largest increase was in chicken, which became twice as expensive as beef, climbing 31% and 13.5% respectively.

The data contrasts with

February

, when

inflation averaged 6.6%

.

And within that number, food rose 9.8%, with an outstanding 10.2% in the Capital and GBA (Conurbano) and 10.6% in the Cuyo Region and in the NOA.

But also, due to the higher incidence of food in the poorest regions, that average inflation of 6.6% jumped to 7.3% in the NOA and 7.8% in the NEA.

Beyond the economic data, the number also has an impact on the political level.

In November last year, Economy Minister Sergio Massa had stated that one of the main objectives of his management was to reach April with inflation in the order of 3%.

"The objective is to reach the month of April with inflation that has 3 ahead of it," launched the minister and reality hit him hard.

Even the presidential expectations of the Minister of Economy are beginning to decline, who with rising inflation would lose ground in the internal race of the Frente de Todos to aspire to the unified space candidacy.
