Cars: with the blue dollar up there are fewer buyers

2023-04-24T22:24:14.327Z

Zero kilometers with immediate delivery continue to be sold, but there have been almost no operations in the used market in recent days. And sellers don't want to sell imported units.

The skyrocketing of the price of the parallel dollar did not completely drive away the customers of the car dealerships as on other occasions, although in many salons they lived this Monday in which the "blue" rose more than 20 pesos as if it had been

a weekend extension.

But although eventual buyers with dollars in hand

are going to wait for the value of the US currency to touch a new reference value

to go out and buy, the sale of zero kilometer units that are quoted in pesos and whose official price has been maintained since on April 1

it ran its course

.

In some dealerships it was even sold at a

faster rate

, pressured to meet the quotas that are required from the automotive terminals.

Ricardo Salomé

, head of the Association of Automotive Dealers (ACARA), assured that the list price of zero kilometers

"has not changed since the beginning of the month

and for May we expect an increase of

between 6% and 7%

, as has been happening."

And he at the same time he admitted that even with stable list prices,

there are fewer customers.

"When there are movements like this in the blue dollar, people are a bit left expecting it to continue rising and

only when the price reaches a ceiling do they go out and buy

," added the businessman.

Even so, at a

Fiat

dealership in the western zone they assured that the locally manufactured cars, which are quoted in pesos and which were dispatched by the automotive terminals, continue to be sold and delivered.

“The serious problem is imported.

The national ones, especially the Cronos and the 208

, mango more, mango less, are sold.

We are closing the month and since we have to meet the objectives set by the factory, we continue to sell national models”.

Hernán Dietrich

, head of the dealership group founded by his father Guillermo, specialized in the Ford and Volkswagen brands, agreed.

“At the moment

we have not had any changes

.

I even came to think that sales were going to skyrocket, but they are staying at the same levels”.

According to ACARA, which is the entity where the zero kilometer unit concessionaires converge, the restriction on the entry of imported vehicles has been increasingly generating

unsatisfied demand

.

Zero kilometer sales today are around 400,000 units per year and Salomé, the head of ACARA, estimates that the unsatisfied demand "is at least

100,000 more units."

In a Toyota Capital dealership they said that during the last week the activity was similar to others, with the delivery of zero kilometer units "whose sale had been agreed upon

several months ago

."

Some Toyota models have a delivery date several months late, especially the Hilux pick-ups manufactured in Zárate and the versions of the Corolla imported from Brazil.

And the buyers?

Were you signaling, in pesos, vehicles that you are going to receive in a few months, with an unknown price list?

“Confusion reigns,

both from the public and from us

.

Our claim is that with the money we collect from a sale we can replace that unit, but it is not very clear when that will be possible," they added at the Japanese brand's dealership.

In the used market, on the other hand, the instability of the dollar

paralyzed everything,

according to

Alejandro Lamas,

secretary of the Automotive Chamber of Commerce (CCA).

"Every time there is a sudden movement of this type,

sales stop

, both for those who have their savings in dollars and for those who have the stock," said Lamas.

Ricardo Mastrángelo,

a high-end used reseller, stated it in a single sentence: “

Everything is stopped”.

The CCA groups, above all, resellers who operate with used units.

“The operations that were in progress have been completed, strictly complying with what was agreed.

And now, in the new, the consultations have stopped.

And

there isn't much willingness to sell the stock

either if you don't know really well today how all this is going to end up,” added Lamas, who has a used dealership in the Almagro neighborhood.

The imported units, both zero kilometers and used, continue to be the most difficult figurine to obtain.

There were almost no unit authorizations in recent weeks, according to an official

Chevrolet dealership.

"I understand that there are still restrictions and / or delays in deliveries by the SIRA government to dispatch units to the market, in all brands," he said.

His Fiat colleague from the west side agreed.

“The situation of imports is very serious.

The replacement

is completely

uncertain .
