More than 1.8 million households in the City of Buenos Aires and the suburbs will have increases in electricity bills that will
be close to 450%
compared to what they paid last year.
Between the
removal of subsidies
to the cost of electricity and the increases in the rates charged by the distributors (Edenor and Edesur), an average bill for a home called N1 (high income)
will average $10,670 in June,
a jump of 446% compared to the $1,953 that the same household paid in June 2022, according to the consultancy Economía & Energía, headed by
Nicolás Arceo
.
The Government opened a registry to decide who will continue to receive subsidies and who will not.
Households with
income greater than 3.5 basic baskets;
or who, earning less,
want to access the savings dollar or those who did not register in that register were identified as
N1
.
As
of May, all the subsidies in the electricity cost were withdrawn,
which is the one with the highest incidence in the tickets of Buenos Aires and the Conurbano.
A high-income
home
-when the segmentation started it was $390,000, but now it is $670,000-
went from paying $4,200 to $5,600
with the first stage of removing subsidies for electricity costs, last year.
In April it went to $5,835
with the first rate increase for Edesur and Edenor.
In May it will rise to $10,191
, due to the total removal of subsidies.
And
in June it will rise to $10,670
due to the application of the second rate increase for Edenor and Edesur.
Nearly 1.1 million households were qualified in the registration of subsidies as
N3
,
middle income
in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA). They earn less than 3.5 basic baskets.
The interannual increase that this sector will have will be 181%
.
In 2022, his average bill was $1,953 according to the averages used by Economía & Energía.
In June of this year, they will pay $5,500
.
The median value of the bill in June 2022 was the same for medium- and high-income households, because segmentation was not yet in effect.
Middle class households (N3) will continue to have a basic block of 400 kWh that will be subsidized.
But if they exceed that level, the impact on the ballots will also be 400%.
In any case, according to specialists, the subsidized block is "generous" and middle-income homes
would only cross category if they consume well above normal.
As for
commercial customers
, some will maintain electricity cost subsidies, while others will lose them completely.
It depends on the level of demand.
Those who spend less will retain almost 60% of subsidies.
However, an invoice of that category that
in June 2022 paid $5,644 will now go to $20,000,
which represents an increase of 248%.

There are almost 2.4 million households that have low incomes,
less than $190,000 per month.
In this segment, the Government maintains
electricity cost
subsidies .
However, they will also
have a year-on-year rise in rates, of 114%.
If in June 2022 they paid an average of $1,600 per month, next June
they will receive $3,500
, according to data from Economía & Energía.
These values correspond to the city of Buenos Aires and the suburbs.
There, the incidence of electricity cost on the total bill is higher than in the interior of the country.
The cost of electricity affects 60% of the bills in Buenos Aires and the Conurbano, according to what Edenor and Edesur executives expressed in the public hearings to recompose rates.
In Argentina, approximately
29% of what is collected from invoices represents the distributor's resources
(what companies charge).
For its part,
41% of the price corresponds to wholesale energy
and the remaining
30% are taxes,
according to an average of the Association of Electric Power Distributors of Argentina (Adeera).

How much will gas rates increase
Gas tariffs are decided at the national level.
In this case,
bills increase between 20 and 37% throughout the country
as a result of increases in the distribution and transportation components.
And
they already accumulate a rise of 179%
compared to last year.
For high-income
N1 households
,
the increase in gas bills accumulated since last winter is 179%.
This is 3.65 million homes across the country.
In June 2022, the national average bill for this segment
was around $2,446, while in May it will reach $6,821.
The
rise is 179%.
There are 2.3 million homes that receive invoices as
category N3
.
These households did not lose gas subsidies at the same level as the N1, but the increases in their gas bills in relation to last winter will also
be above 100% on average
.
They will go from a $2,446 ticket
last winter to a $5,000 ticket this winter.
The N2 segments (low income) maintain the subsidies on the cost of gas that were removed between September and January for the highest level, but they will have increases from May 1 due to the increase in what the distributors keep.
The bills
will rise 47% in that category
of homes: they will go from an average
of $1,691 to $2,485.
