Competition is coming to the Paris metro. Not yet on the historic lines (1 to 14), where RATP will keep its monopoly until 2039. But on the Grand Paris Express (lines 15 to 18) under construction. Keolis has just been preferred to RATP to operate lines 16 and 17. A contract around 300 million that "will begin in July 2023 for a minimum period of seven years and maximum of ten years," says Île-de-France Mobilités.
The subsidiary of the SNCF does not hide its satisfaction: "These are the first metro lines to be awarded in a competitive framework in Île-de-France (excluding airport services)," explains the group. On the other hand, it is a slap in the face for the Régie led by Jean Castex because these are not secondary links: 29 km long, line 16 will have ten stations.
