Real estate agents' commissions in the crosshairs

The Competition Authority, seized by Bercy last year, issued this Wednesday an opinion on the competitive situation of real estate transactions, carried out by professionals. The conclusions are explosive.

Main black spot? Agency fees, paid by the seller or buyer, once the sale is sealed, are around 5.78% TTC in 2022, according to the Competition Authority, well above the European Union average at nearly 4%. "Prices have risen very sharply in recent years, and fee rates have remained the same. The amount of commissions has almost doubled. They went from 7000,8000 to 15,000 euros to <>,<> euros on average," says Thibaud Vergé, vice-president of the Competition Authority.
