Germany will host the next international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine on June 11, 2024, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced on Wednesday (September 20th) after a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York. This meeting will take place in Berlin, added the services of the chancellery in a statement.
The last such conference, in London, brought together leaders and representatives of more than 60 countries and financial institutions for two days in June to release funds for the country attacked by Russia. The aim is to help Ukraine keep its economy afloat and, in the longer term, to rebuild its infrastructure and various sectors of activity. The private sector is also called upon to mobilize.
The German Chancellor had a 30-minute meeting with the Ukrainian President on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The political, military and humanitarian situation in Ukraine was at the heart of the discussions, according to the chancellery, Olaf Scholz reaffirming that Germany would continue its support for Kiev.
