According to broker Pretto, 70% of loans for a second home have been refused since spring 2022 in the face of soaring rates. Here are some ways to ensure that the path to acquiring a holiday home is not fraught with pitfalls.
1. Choose a different, more accessible destination
Choosing a lesser-known destination is always a good plan to buy cheaper. "Leaving Gordes, in the Vaucluse (84), and going to Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, twenty minutes by car, the price is almost halved. And yet, it's always the same weather, the same quality of life," recommends Julien Haussy, the founder of Espaces Atypiques, which specializes in atypical real estate. In Gordes, the price per square meter is around 6900 € for a house against barely 4000 € in Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt.
