The car has become a luxury product. And that's just the beginning. Between on-board electronics and electric vehicles, the bill is expected to soar further, despite state aid to help the poorest households move towards clean mobility. Gone are the days when Ford wanted its workers to be able to afford the sedans they produced. More recently, at the end of the 1990s, Renault's launch of Dacia and its €5,000 car gave hope for a lasting downward trend in prices. In France, during the first half of the year, prices are up regardless of the engine, thermal, hybrid or zero emissions.
