These are the goals of many French people. Get a permanent contract and a place to call home. While the former benefits from a rather favourable environment with an unemployment rate of 7.4%, the latter has been a road strewn with pitfalls for the past two years. The meteoric rise in interest rates, from 1% to 4.5% over twenty years and more, has jeopardized many first-time buyers' projects. But there are corners of France where it's easier than elsewhere.
