A delivery driver died on Monday morning (December 4th) at a site of the cement manufacturer Lafarge in Port-la-Nouvelle (Aude), buried under the rubble that his truck was transporting, said a source close to the investigation, which was opened for "involuntary manslaughter".
The victim, an experienced employee in his 50s, tried to raise the alarm by making a call, but to no avail, the source said. The Narbonne prosecutor's office has confirmed the opening of an investigation.
The accident happened around 6 a.m. Monday. The victim, employed by a subcontractor of the cement manufacturer Lafarge, had gotten out of his vehicle to "ensure the unloading of the goods", the source close to the case described. "Expert assessments will be carried out to determine the causes of this death," the source said, adding that the labour inspectorate had been jointly seized.
