THE SPORT SCAN - The French pilot would like to personally thank the military firefighter who effectively intervened at the scene of the accident with his extinguisher.

Victim of a terrible crash and miraculously emerged from a blaze in which he remained 28 seconds before being able to extract himself, Romain Grosjean left the Bahrain military hospital on Wednesday morning.

The Haas team driver, who will not participate in the next and last race of the season on the same circuit this weekend, gave reassuring news about his health.

“Physically, it's okay.

My left hand is badly damaged, my right hand is doing pretty well, a sprained left ankle and my left knee is swollen, but that's not a big worry.

The pain is very bearable, I'm on paracetamol, ”said the Frenchman.

Grosjean did not just give his news.

The 34-year-old native of Geneva also wanted to take it from one of the rescuers to whom he partly owes his life.

This man was not the first to intervene at the scene of the accident.

A first firefighter tried to intervene on the flames, without much success.

A second crossed the track before methodically and more effectively activating a more powerful extinguisher.

The former Renault driver would like to find the individual to thank him personally and show him all his gratitude.

Romain Grosjean remained 28 seconds in the blaze before coming out of the flames.

“Whoever crossed the runway and sprayed my cockpit is a professional military firefighter.

He knew exactly what he was doing.

He sprayed the place where I was in the car to keep some sort of air corridor.

Everyone says to me: 'You must have been super hot!

But I never swallowed hot air, that was their big worry in intensive care.

This gentleman saved me.

I will try to find him to offer him a mini-helmet and thank him from the bottom of my heart, ”said Grosjean.

The call is launched.

The reunion between the pilot and one of his rescuers promises to be very emotional.
