Sira Bonnard - formerly Sira Quiroga, formerly Arish Agoriuq - is no longer the innocent seamstress that millions of readers became fond of with

El tiempo entre costuras

(Planeta, 2009), the literary debut that catapulted her then unknown author to the first position of the list of the best-selling books in Spain for several years.

A phenomenon that now has a continuation in

Sira

, the new novel by María Dueñas (Puertollano, 57 years old) that goes on sale next April 14.

With an initial circulation of half a million copies, Planeta turns the return of one of its fetish authors into its bet for this first half of the year.

Jerusalem, London, Madrid and Tangier are the scenes of an intrigue that takes place in the period after World War II.

After working for the British secret services, Sira seeks peace in her life but a series of events will put her back on the tragic side of history.

The same ingredients of the first part for a book of which its publisher sold nearly two million copies in Spain, to which must be added those sold in Latin America already in its later edition in the Círculo de Lectores.

A dream story for this doctor in English Philology and professor on leave of absence at the University of Murcia, whose life turned upside down when she decided to write.

He was 44 years old.

Then came

Mission Oblivion

(2012),

Temperance

(2015) and in 2018

The Captain's Daughters

(all in Planet), a novel in which he takes the stage to New York in the 1930s to talk about the history of struggle of three Spanish migrant women trying to survive in the Big Apple.

“Almost twelve years after her arrival in bookstores, Sira returns.

Recovering it for this novel has been fascinating, together we have traveled through scenarios, intrigues and moments that marked an era.

I trust that this reunion will once again captivate all those who enjoyed

The time between seams

”, says Dueñas.

The protagonist of this continuation of

El tiempo entre costuras was

not always in Dueñas' mind as a great character.

At first, around the time she was outlining her first novel, it was others who were catching the spotlight, but Sira grew to take the lead.

“When I read the writers say that the characters get out of hand, I thought: what bullshit.

But yes, they leave, they ask you for a film and you give it to them with pleasure ”, assured Dueñas in an interview in EL PAÍS in 2011. Turning into the absolute protagonist of one of the best-selling novels in recent years, Sira will mark the agenda in spring in a sector that is still suffering the worst consequences of the pandemic.
