Actually, the clerk Katharina Mair in the district infrastructure committee just wanted to give an overview of which district roads are due to be renovated this year.

From this, however, a fundamental debate about cycle paths developed.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - The district is investing around 3.8 million euros in the district roads area.

This includes 550,000 euros in personnel costs for the road maintenance depots.

“The district does not have its own building yard.

The road maintenance departments in Tölz and Wolfratshausen take over the tasks, and we pay for them, ”said District Administrator Josef Niedermaier.

Investments are also made in the vehicle fleet: for example, a new winter service vehicle has to be bought for 250,000 euros.

Two major construction projects are planned this year.

The roadway is due to be renewed on Kreisstraße 7, which was closed for months last year due to extensive work.

The district is investing 900,000 euros in the ceiling construction project.

The Töl 13 between Reichersbeuern and Bundesstraße 13 is also to be expanded - for around 1.4 million euros.

Around 3.8 million euros for district roads

Both measures made Max Korntheuer (ÖDP) prick up his ears.

The district council wanted to know whether a road expansion was being checked at the same time as whether a cycle path was also possible.

That'll be checked, said Mair.

“But most of the time, buying land is the problem.” There is no legal way of getting land if the owner doesn't play along.

In theory, a route would be enforceable via a plan approval procedure.

"But that only works on larger streets," said Niedermaier.

Michael Häsch (CSU) used the whole thing for some basic comments on the subject of cycle paths and the everyday cycle path network that the district would like to create.

The farmer noted that “we use up a lot of space” for the planned cycle paths.

One has to weigh up where new bike paths are really needed and where it would be more sensible to leave the areas to nature or to agriculture.

District Administrator: "We need a smart network"

However, Niedermaier sees the future in a network of everyday cycle paths.

It is not about leisure traffic, but about creating fast and short connections from A to B.

Of course, you have to take the balance required by Häsch, but “we need a clever network of cycle paths that meets the needs of everyday cyclists”.

For Niedermaier, this includes an accompanying cycle path as part of the B11 expansion between Heilbrunn and Königsdorf, as well as cycle paths on State Road 2072 between Tölz and Tattenkofen, between Lenggries and Jachenau, and on Töl 5 between Heilbrunn and Penzberg.

Korntheuer wanted to know what exactly the cycle path on the B11 looks like.

As reported, the traffic load on the main road in this section is not high enough to justify the construction of a cycle path - actually.

"We want this cycle path and are currently trying to argue with the state building authority," said Niedermaier.

And indeed there is room for maneuver here, added climate manager Andreas Süß.

“It is by far the least traveled federal road in the district, but it is difficult to see, for example.” Therefore, when it comes to the urgency of the construction of a cycle path, one can “come to a different technical assessment”.

Thomas Gründl (CSU): "You can't lay a new road or build a cycle path."

The fact that a cycle path should be built on the B11 "is not at all a discussion for me," said CSU district councilor and Heilbrunn's mayor Thomas Gründl.

“You can't relocate a road or build a cycle path.” But what is most important to him is the connection from Heilbrunn to Penzberg.

“Please don't forget the Töl 5,” said Gründl.

There, the first section of a road-accompanying cycle path from Heilbrunn to Langau currently fails because of a listed barn that stands directly on the district road.

You could avoid this section with a loop over Baumberg.

The second section from the roundabout in the direction of Penzberg is in the FFH area.

“A landscape maintenance plan is necessary here,” Mair explained the situation.
