For the member communities of the intermunicipal network "ILE Auerbergland" it should be some relief news: They can count on ample subsidies in the future if they renew their core routes. Tourism will also benefit.

For the member communities of the intermunicipal network "ILE Auerbergland" it should be some relief news: They can count on ample subsidies in the future if they renew their core routes.

Tourism will also benefit.

Bernbeuren

- The lamentation of some mayors could be heard again and again in the municipal councils when they talked about the road networks of their communities.

Many connections are in very bad shape, and the necessary rehabilitation is costly.

Help is now coming from the ILE Auerbergland (inter-communal network for rural development) based in Bernbeuren, to which 14 municipalities from the Schongauer Land and Ostallgäu belong.

As the association reports, “in future the construction of so-called core routes can also be promoted outside of procedures under the Land Consolidation Act”.

The needs were recorded for each member municipality

Since 2017, Auerbergland has been working intensively on a cross-community inventory and analysis of the agricultural road network, also taking into account the use of the roads for leisure, recreation and tourism, it says.

According to the association, the need for improvements to the paths was recorded for each municipality and divided into categories for short, medium and long-term implementation.

At the end of October 2020, the concept was recognized by the authorities responsible for rural development in Upper Bavaria and Swabia as a "core route network concept".

It now serves as the basis for the implementation and promotion of construction measures "also outside of the procedures under the Land Consolidation Act".

154 ways included in the concept

The municipalities will be pleased because the list is long: 177 routes with a total length of around 140 kilometers were recorded.

Ultimately, 154 routes with a length of 126 kilometers in twelve municipalities were included in the concept and assessed according to the urgency of renovation or new construction: 45 kilometers are assigned priority one, 43 are priority two and 33 kilometers are priority three.

Closing gaps in the cycle and hiking network possible

Paths with a length of about 22 kilometers also serve as access for agricultural individual farms and hamlets, it is said.

And: "A significant part of the paths to be improved also serves to ensure quality and to close gaps in the network of cycling and hiking trails." That, in turn, should please the tourism association.

Grants of up to 85 percent

The funding amounts are decent: According to Reinhard Walk, who accompanies the implementation for Auerbergland, “decisions are made on a case-by-case basis”.

The minimum funding is 50 percent.

But it can also be significantly more.

According to Walk, the maximum rate is 85 percent of the investment costs.

The municipalities and the private landowners get the new paths at a bargain price.

It is pointed out, however, that without exception no completely new routes will be developed, "since the use of existing routes is preferred".

Bernbeuren and Steingaden should benefit the most

The large municipalities involved are likely to benefit from the new core route concept.

In Schongauer Land these are mainly Steingaden and Bernbeuren.

Looking forward to seeing you again in Vizinada and on the Auerberg
