The BNO Immigration to the UK program will be open to Hong Kong residents from next month. The British Hong Kong Overseas Chinese Association, founded by Cheng Wenjie, a former staff member of the British Consulate in Hong Kong, who has been granted political asylum by the United Kingdom, announced today (11th) a survey on Hong Kong residents emigrating to the UK.

The association interviewed 315 Hong Kong residents through an online questionnaire from September 9 to October 1. 88% of the respondents indicated that they intend to immigrate out of Hong Kong.

When asked about the reasons for immigration, 96% (272 people) of the 283 respondents who intend to immigrate to the United Kingdom expressed their concerns about the "Hong Kong National Security Act" endangering their personal safety, and 96% (271 people) wanted to immigrate because of fate No longer familiar with Hong Kong, 67% (190 people) of the respondents want to seek a better living environment in the UK.

BNO visa applications are open, nearly half of respondents want to apply immediately

According to the results of a survey by the British Hong Kong Chinese Association, 28% of the 295 Hong Kong people who intend to leave Hong Kong want to immigrate within six months, 28% of the respondents hope to immigrate within the next six months to one year, and 24% The respondents hope to immigrate in the next one to two years; 59% of the 295 respondents hope to move to England outside of London, and 28% of the respondents hope to move to London.

In addition, 276 interviewees hope to apply for a BNO visa. Nearly half of them will submit their applications immediately after the visa program opens. More than 90% of them hope to obtain British citizenship through the "5+1" program.

The Commissioner’s Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong issued a statement earlier criticizing the British government for violating its commitments and insisting on advancing the BNO visa policy, and the British Consul General in Hong Kong for slandering Hong Kong’s national security law. They expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to this and demanded that the British side immediately correct their mistakes, "Stop Hypocritical performances and political manipulation", otherwise you will surely shoot yourself in the foot.

The survey asked about the income and academic qualifications of the interviewees. Among the 277 interviewees, 62% had a monthly salary of more than 20,000 yuan in Hong Kong, and 26% of the respondents were 20,000 to 30,000 yuan. 14% of respondents have a monthly salary of between RMB 58,000.

In addition, 71% of the respondents hold a bachelor's degree or above.

The association put forward a number of recommendations to the British Ministry of Home Affairs, including requesting refusal of BNO visas for Communist Party members, Hong Kong officials, Hong Kong police, etc. It also recommended that the United Kingdom reopen BNO applications to Hong Kong residents born before 1997, and that the British authorities exempt applicants as appropriate Because of the anti-revision movement, I hope that the British authorities will adopt various measures to help Hong Kong immigrants adapt to life in the UK, such as providing job matching and allowing students with BNO visas to apply for student loans.

Cheng Wenjie said that the report will be submitted to the British Ministry of Home Affairs, saying that this time through collecting the wishes of Hong Kong people, he hopes to reflect their opinions to the British authorities through scientific analysis.
