Barcelona's Primavera Sound current music festival, one of the largest in Spain and Europe, announced on Tuesday the cancellation of its edition, scheduled for early June, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"It is with great sadness that we must communicate that the twentieth anniversary of Primavera Sound Barcelona is postponed to 2022,"
the festival said in a statement.

The decision was taken in the light of
the
current
"uncertainty"
, the organizers being unable to know if the restrictions due to the pandemic will be lifted on the dates scheduled for the festival (June 2 to 6).
Under these conditions,
"we cannot work normally in the preparation of the festival, nor make sure that once the date arrives, it can take place"
, adds the press release.
“We did everything”
for the festival to take place, however, underline the organizers, referring in particular to the pioneering clinical study that they had carried out in December during a concert of five hundred people in a hall in Barcelona.
The participants had watched a show standing, glued to each other but masked and tested.
Eight days later, none had been infected with the coronavirus.

By canceling its 2021 edition, Primavera is following in the footsteps of many other festivals including that of Glastonbury in England, one of the largest in the world, which announced, at the end of January, the cancellation of its June 2021 edition.
