Covid-19: "Nothing can change the situation," warns Gabriel Attal

At the end of the weekly Defense Council, the government spokesperson gave a speech that was meant to be reassuring about the situation.

It was an expected speech, especially in Dunkirk or Moselle, territories where the epidemic continues to spread very quickly, in particular due to the presence of variants of Covid-19.

This Wednesday noon, the government spokesperson, Gabriel Attal, reported on the exchanges between Emmanuel Macron and his ministers during the morning's Health Defense Council.

He explained that no additional restriction would be taken in these areas where the advance of variants worries.

"Nothing can change the situation," however warned Gabriel Attal.

For the government spokesperson, “it would be unreasonable to relax our efforts.

Hospital pressure is still very strong ”.

However, he was delighted with the attitude of the French, who “knew how to thwart the forecasts”.

Insisting on "the necessary mobilization of the French", he urged them to "hold together" because "we can pay dearly for any form of relaxation".

"Each vaccine, one more step towards a return to normalcy"

Regarding vaccination, the government spokesman conceded that the campaign was "not up to the will of the French to be vaccinated".

"I understand the frustration of people over 75," he said, assuring that "we are operating just in time."

"We have been able, with Europe, to bang our fists on the table," he said, however, recalling that from next month, Moderna vaccines will be produced in France.

"Each vaccine is one more step towards a return to normal," hammered the government spokesman, promising that the pace was now accelerated and that the state would be able "to respond to the enthusiasm of (its) elders ".

"Fighting against the epidemic is to fight against its consequences", according to Gabriel Attal, who underlined the difficulties encountered by the youngest in the face of the pandemic.

Between economic insecurity and the lack of social ties, "our young people are in the grip of doubts about their future".

The spokesperson took stock of recent measures taken in favor of students.

More than 1.3 million meals at 1 euro have thus been served in university canteens since the implementation of the measure.

And "specific aid, which can represent up to 500 euros, is open", even for non-scholarship holders.

To "respond to this anxiety, this discomfort" of young people, Gabriel Attal announced that the government "decided to hire two young people per university campus to create a link".

1,600 referent jobs will thus be created.

In France, the epidemic is declining slightly

This press conference comes as several health indicators have started a very slight and slow decline.

Thus, this Tuesday, 19,590 new cases had been identified, down 5% compared to the previous Tuesday.

A continuous decrease for ten days (-10% in one week).

In hospitals too, the improvement seems visible according to government figures.

With 26,239 people hospitalized on Tuesday evening, the decrease is 14% over the week.

While, in recent days, the number of patients in serious condition seemed to stabilize (-33 this Tuesday, to 3,348).

The country still records, on average over seven days, more than 300 daily deaths.

For its part, vaccination continues to be deployed with 815,547 people having received the two doses and 2,347,088 who received a first injection.

The average rate is 100,000 vaccinations every day.
