The number of patients hospitalized for Covid-19 also continued to increase on Tuesday, to 27,005 patients, including some 2006 patients who arrived in the last 24 hours.

The day before, hospitals housed 26,888 Covid patients.

In the intensive care units, which receive the most serious cases, there were 3,071 patients (including 343 who entered in the last 24 hours).

They were 3,031 patients in intensive care on Monday and 2,829 a week ago.

This number, an indicator particularly monitored by the authorities because it indicates the pressure on hospital services, fell back below 3,000 on December 10, while the second wave of the epidemic ebbed following the re-containment of the population six weeks earlier.

Faced with these figures, which are fueling concern among specialists, concerned about the dissemination on French territory of variants, British and South African in particular, which are much more contagious, the government is still giving itself time to observe the results of the curfew in France. 6:00 p.m., before deciding on a possible new confinement.

Finally, 1,184,510 people have received a first dose of the vaccine since the start of the campaign launched at the very end of December, including 91,552 in the last 24 hours.
