Covid-19: even in case of reconfinement, Blanquer wishes to keep schools open

Jean-Michel Blanquer, who does not reject the hypothesis of a closure of schools if the situation worsens, explains preferring confinement

In March, during the first confinement, schools had to close, forcing many parents to take a break to take care of their children.

While a third confinement seems to be looming - after that of November, during which the schools had remained open, Jean-Michel Blanquer, the Minister of National Education, explains to the Journal du dimanche that he again wishes to keep the schools open.

"I prefer the terms that prevailed in November, with open establishments, especially since we see a posteriori that our strategy has worked," explained Jean-Michel Blanquer.

However, the minister is not making any commitment, as many of our neighbors, like Germany, have closed their schools.

"All our work consists in avoiding this hypothesis (

), even if it remains conceivable in the event of absolute necessity", specified the minister.

The situation "allows school continuity"

Regarding the health situation within National Education, it "allows school continuity", says Jean-Michel Blanquer to the JDD.

“The curve is comparable to that after the All Saints holidays: we went from 600 declared cases per day to a plateau reaching around 2,000 - 2,500 daily cases,” reveals the minister.

On several thousand tests carried out within the National Education, we have today the same rate of positivity as in December.

In addition, 371 classrooms are currently closed across the country due to the coronavirus.

On Saturday, Public Health France recorded almost 24,000 new cases and 321 additional deaths in 24 hours.

The arrival of new variants of Covid-19 on the territory, in particular the British derivative, raises fears in the coming weeks of a very strong resurgence of the epidemic.
