Peiting - EC Peiting would have had to play seven games in the remaining two weeks in the main round of the Oberliga Süd.
A Corona compulsory break at the ECP - this season already the third - now prevented this project.
Last Friday, shortly before the away game in Landsberg, there were the first suspected cases that have since turned out to be positive cases.
"We tested all of them with a PCR test, there are still a few results pending," reports Gordon Borberg.
The Peitinger team manager cannot yet estimate the extent of the corona infections in the team.
“We do not have any final, precise statements from the health department as to how things will proceed.
What is certain, however, is that some players will be in quarantine until March 9, ”adds Borberg, who is in constant contact with the authorities and who is also trying to get an overview.
EC Peiting for the third time in a forced break
It is now clear that the planned games of the Peitinger next weekend at home against the Blue Devils Weiden (Friday, March 5th) and at Deggendorfer SC (Sunday, March 7th) have been canceled.
Whether the ECP will be able to return to the ice a week later against the Passau Black Hawks (Friday, March 12) remains to be seen.
"The players affected are only allowed to play again after a detailed health check," says Borberg about the precautionary measures that had already been taken in the team in the previous Corona cases.
The team manager cannot explain why the Peitinger has been caught for the third time: “We have strictly adhered to all hygiene requirements,” assures Borberg.
Return to the ice only after a thorough health check
According to Borberg, the players currently affected all show slight symptoms.
“But it's nothing tragic,” said the team manager.
He is well aware that the EC Peiting will not be able to play all of its planned 36 games by the end of the main round on March 16.
“Of course we try to play as many games as possible.” But he is happy that the ECP played 80 percent of its games and thus achieved the required quota of 75 percent.
Nevertheless, he hopes that the team will be able to get back into the game in good time before the main round ends.
The chances of the Peitinger to improve in the remaining two to three games in the table and to make the direct entry into the play-offs, however, are vanishingly small.
“I'm no arithmetic genius, but if it should still be possible to reach sixth place, we'll try everything,” explains Borberg.
He admits, however, that the plans of the currently seventh-placed Peitinger concentrate on the pre-play-offs, which were not decided in a "best-of-three" series as in a normal season, but only in a round trip become.
"We hope that some of our injured players will return by then," says Borberg, for whom the recent forced break also has something good.
"Against Landsberg we would have missed eleven people from the normal squad." Although some young players had the chance to prove themselves, the whole thing was "of course also a challenge," said Borberg.
He tries to deal with this complicated situation as professionally as possible.
"The season is anything but easy, but if the Corona cases had occurred right before the playoffs, everything would be much worse." In the worst case, the playoffs could be canceled completely, as was the case last year.
Borberg doesn't even want to imagine this scenario: "Then all the work would have been in vain."
