Egypt has asked Israel to make concessions for a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, the Emirati news network Al-Arabiya reported today (Saturday).
In the Gaza Strip, four Israeli prisoners are being held by the terrorist organization: Lt. Hadar Goldin, Sgt. Oron Shaul, Abra Mengistu and Hisham a-Sayed. The report comes after a Bezeq deal with the Assad regime in Syria was completed on Tuesday.
The outline of the deal may be similar to that published in foreign sources with Syria: combining prisoner exchanges with the supply of vaccines or the transfer of funds for the purchase of vaccines to Gaza residents.
The last released from Hamas captivity was Gilad Shalit, who was abducted on June 25, 2006. He was held captive for about five years and four months. He was released in exchange for the release of 1,027 security prisoners, including hundreds of world prisoners. Also in his case, Egypt was involved in the prisoner exchange deal.
