Not everyone in need officially receives social benefits and thus the FFP2 masks provided by the state.

In order to provide those in need who are not entitled to this help with the breathing masks, which are now mandatory, entrepreneurs from the district have donated 15,000 FFP2 masks to the food banks.

Starnberg - The Bavarian state government has made 2.5 million FFP2 masks available for recipients of social welfare benefits throughout Bavaria.

"For the district that's around 10,500 pieces," explains District Administrator Stefan Frey.

But there are also many poorer people who do not receive any official social benefits such as Hartz IV from the state.

“And then they fall through the cracks,” says Frey.

"For example, many single mothers and pensioners come to us for whom FFP2 masks cost a lot of money," says Erika Ardelt.

The chairwoman of the Starnberger Tafel was all the happier on Thursday when Gerd Zanker, managing director of Elektro Saegmüller GmbH, and Michael Padberg, chairman of the Starnberg employers' association UWS, handed a few boxes with the certified respiratory masks in the courtyard of the Protestant Church of Peace on the Kaiser- Passed Wilhelm-Strasse.

Padberg presented a total of 10,000 and Zanker 5,000 masks to Frey.

Erika Ardelt received 650 of them, the rest "will be distributed to the other boards in the district via the district office," said Frey.

When Zanker ordered 2,500 masks for the 110 employees in his company and their families, he “got the idea to donate 5,000 FFP2 masks for those in need”.

Padberg had the same intention and financed 10,000 pieces of the face masks "with the help of sponsors", for which pharmacies have to pay between three and four euros per copy.

"For some people that is pretty expensive," says Frey.

"I am very grateful," said the district administrator.

“I am very happy about the solidarity in our district with people in need.

The donations are a strong signal. "UWS chairman Padberg justified the initiative of his association:" The protection of all fellow citizens is very important to us, and with this donation we want to set a sign of solidarity in the district so that we can be more successful together in the The fight against the coronavirus. "

For Saegmüller managing director Zanker, too, it is “a matter of concern to support people so that they too can protect themselves against the virus and its spread as well as possible”.

After all, he is "very grateful that we as a craft business have come through the crisis well so far".

Erika Ardelt, who feeds around 350 needy people with the Starnberger Tafel, immediately set to work and packed the protective masks into every food bag with her hard-working helpers.

"I will explain to everyone at the issue how the masks work and that you can use them several times to avoid rubbish," said the Tafel boss.
